Piano Description
STEINWAY MODEL A
For Sale: a Steinway & Sons Model A grand piano, serial number 76564. It was completed on January 21, 1893 and sold to M. Steinert & Sons Co. Boston, Mass on January 31, 1893.
This is a lovely, classic instrument with a clear voice and good sustain.
The current owners purchased it in 1980. Prior, the soundboard, hammers and original ivory keys were replaced.
The case is in good condition. The legs, lyre, music desk, and lid are sound. The finish is in generally good condition with some wear where the music desk slides and with finger wear on the keyboard stretcher (where the Steinway decal is). There are also some chips and wear on various edges of the case and bench. The bench is sturdy and functional. The soundboard has several fine cracks. I don't believe they are a problem at present. The bridges and ribs are in good condition without any separation or cracks. The plain wire strings have some minor staining but they may be polished so that they are bright and clean.
The piano is very playable but is ready for a thorough regulation of the action and dampers. The sostenuto needs adjustment and regulation.
The seller is very motivated to find a new home for this instrument and is asking $9,900 or best acceptable offer. It may be viewed online at Piano Technicians Guild - Boston Chapter or inspected at its Needham, MA location by appointment.
