Piano Description

Our piano has been maintained at the highest level, with regular tunings and a climate controlled room of its own. This piano was fully restored by the late and legendary David C. Betts of Natick, Massachusetts. Mr. Betts was a master craftsman, an inductee into the Piano Technicians Guild Hall of Fame, and the founder of the Advanced Piano Technology program at the North Bennet Street School. His restoration work in 1994 was extensive and meticulous, including:

-New soundboard, pinblock, tuning pins, and strings

-Recapping of bridges and full damper system renovation

-Replacement of hammers, hammer shanks, flanges, whippens, and action components

-Rebuilding and polishing of the action frame and key frame

-Refinishing of the case in satin reddish mahogany

-Restoration of original ivory keytops (where possible)

-Replating of hardware, renovation of the pedal box, and addition of a new artist bench

This Steinway is not only a stunning instrument—it is also a tribute to the artistry of one of the finest piano technicians of our time. We are eager to see it live on in a setting where it will continue to be played, heard, and loved.
