Piano Description

Eric Herz German single manual, 2x8’ with buff stop, numbered 334. Made sometime in the mid-late 1970’s

This instrument was recently restrung using high quality brass and iron wire and zither style tuning pins. It is non-transposing and currently at a=415, although it can be tuned to a=440. Its action has been thoroughly rebuilt, using replacement Dowd jacks that have been fit to the instrument. The jacks all have bottom screws & all dampers and plectra have been replaced. The action has recently been voiced and regulated. The jack rail has been modified from original design to improve touch. The soundboard is solid spruce.

The mid-century style case has been thoroughly cleaned, touched up, and oiled with traditional methods and materials that would have been used for the original finish. It has been fitted with a new, full length, species appropriate lid prop stick. There are some slight stains/spots on the soundboard & lid.

The Herz model S is a great instrument for a student, avid amateur, or professional harpsichordist who has limited home or studio space, or for a pianist who is interested in adding harpsichord technique to their playing. They tend to be stable and sturdy instruments (for harpsichords). This one in particular is set apart from others due to the high quality work recently done, which included upgrades to touch and tone bringing it more in line with today’s custom instruments.
